Spoon
Transference
(Merge)

Spoon is one of those bands that release one great album after another, and do so while still maintaining that cool indie credibility that made them such a beloved band since their first release in 1994. All Spoon has done with the release of their seventh full-length album Transference is add to that reputation.

Transference picks up right where Spoon's last album Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga left off. Full of mellow to mid-tempo indie rock tunes, Spoon has created 11 tracks of musical bliss. The band has taken the formula they have crafted during the course of their career and utilized it very well on this release.

The second track on the album, "Is Love Forever", is a great example, utilizing the repetitive guitar technique they are well-known for, a technique that is just one pure pop hook, and adding in the echoing vocal effect showcased on past tracks such as "The Ghost of You Lingers".

The rest of the album is just as good, with Britt Daniel's easy-going vocal delivery once again a key plus in the product Spoon has created. Transference is one of those discs that may not immediately overwhelm you, but repeated listenings will make one realize what a good disc this is. An album that will rank highly on most critics year-end lists for Best Albums, and deservedly so, this is highly recommended!
